Cemetery/Churchyard

St. George’s Wakefield church/churchyard was established in 1904. There are plots available for traditional burial (casket) and cremation. The present cemetery has almost reached full capacity and limited plots are available. We are now using the new cemetery to the south of the present churchyard in which four new cement headstone rows have been completed. A large wooden cross now stands in the new Memorial Park in the new Cemetery. Plans are under discussion for a seating area complete with benches and shrubs/flowers for those who wish to spend some quiet/prayerful time there.

The cemetery is maintained through revenue from plot purchases, donations, and interest from the Perpetual Care account (if necessary). There are two funds which donations can be made:

  • The Cemetery/Churchyard Fund – which is used for regular maintenance costs such as: grass cutting, soil purchase, development and improvement to the cemetery/churchyard.
  • The Perpetual Care Fund – was established to provide an income source (using the interest) for future cemetery costs.

Donations can be made to either fund; and can also be made in memory of a loved one and entered into the church’s memorial book.

Part of the purchase price for plots goes into the Perpetual Care account for future needs.
